powering cures, realizing futures

Briannya Evans

Briannya Evans was first diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of orbital cancer, when she was 13 years old.  Doctors at Nicklaus Children’s & Miami Cancer Institute identified the malignancy in her right eye and treated her with chemotherapy and radiation.

In her scholarship application, Briannya explained “I was oblivious to the processes and the physical and mental burdens of being diagnosed with cancer.  Throughout this difficult time, I learned to value those who infuse positive energy into my life and who rallied me through my healing process.  Cancer attempted to delay my progression, but I rose and fought against the challenge.”

Briannya is flourishing today as she attends Boston University and focuses her studies on International Relations.
