The Fifth Annual Will Irwin Golf Classic was a memorable event in every way. Three hundred golfers turned out at the pristine Coto De Casa. They lit up the links with compassion for cancer research and passion for the game, as the tournament expanded to two full fields of play.
Perhaps most meaningful of all was the strong sense of community that was palpable. Out of loss has come close-knit friendships and a deep sense of purpose for solving some intractable challenges in pediatric cancer.
We are indebted to the Irwins for making the tournament possible and for their generosity in fueling science since their beloved Will passed.
A huge shout out also goes to Josh Johnston, who seized the podium at the closing dinner to offer a matching challenge on behalf of Northwestern Mutual. The challenge helped raise an extra $40,000, bringing the event’s total to nearly $500,000.
