My name is Bonnie Lattimore, and I am the Director of Corporate Alliances for PCRF. I recently started this position, and I am so excited to blend a few of my passions: philanthropy, sports, and partnerships. For the past 15 years, PCRF has produced a tried-and-true event called Dribble for the Cure with the UCLA and St. John’s basketball programs. Watching this event series bring communities together to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer inspired us to take this platform nationally.
This year we partnered with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, founded by Jim Valvano. This partnership led to the rebranding of the event “Dribble for Victory Over Cancer.” The name speaks to the legacy PCRF has built through this event and the future that V Foundation will help us forage. As we enter this new year, we are excited to expand the program across the country and introduce new national and local partners.
This September, I attended my first live event as a PCRF employee, the Dribble for Victory Over Cancer, at St. John’s University. I was so impressed with the event! I was also so proud to be wearing my HOPE t-shirt representing the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. I had just had a baby less than 2 months prior, so I brought my daughter Alden to the event (along with my sister Wendy to babysit-bonus having family living in the NYC area!) It was so wonderful to share this first event with them.
The event at St. John’s supports funding for Dr. Mitch Cairo at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY. It was so wonderful to meet Dr. Cairo in person as PCRF has funded him for 40 years! He brought some of his patients to the event to speak about the great work that PCRF is doing to fund research that is powering cures and helping kids realize their futures. In addition, working directly with the St. John’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, coaches, cheerleaders, band, mascot, and athletic department staff made for a great event. From over 15 years working in sports marketing and corporate partnerships, I am confident that this event is the perfect platform for local and national sponsors to get involved in making a difference for kids fighting cancer.
Dribble for Victory Over Cancer is a turn-key event ready to spread across the country for Division I, II, and III men’s and women’s basketball programs as well as high school boys’ and girls’ programs! So, if you work for a corporation looking to make a difference in a really fun and interactive way, or if you are a basketball team at any level interested in joining the fight, please contact me at BLattimore@pcrf-kids.org!
Together we can power cures and realize futures.
