2018 UCLA’s Dribble for the Cure
About the Dribble for the Cure
Despite the incredible progress in technology, cancer still claims the lives of more children than any other disease. Pediatric cancer is every family’s nightmare. Parents and children’s lives are on “hold” – waiting, hoping, and searching for the cure. That’s where the Dribble for the Cure comes in.
The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation has dedicated itself to supporting research efforts to find the cure for pediatric cancer. With the help of University Athletic Departments, the Dribble for the Cure connects research dollars with local pediatric oncology hospitals. Together we are helping communities fundraise in a fun and unique way.
How it Works
Head coaches along with the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams join forces with PCRF and local children’s hospitals. Together we help raise awareness and dollars that will save the lives of children battling cancer. At the event participants meet their local college teams, Dribble alongside athletes, and even get autographs and photos.
With all the fun and excitement, the Dribble for the Cure really transcends the importance of fundraising for this deserving cause. Local hospitals choose active oncology patients as Honorary Team Captains to attend the event. Their stories are heard and participants are able to see where all their fundraising efforts are being directed towards – saving each of these child’s lives.
What to Expect at UCLA
This fun-filled day gives you the opportunity to meet the UCLA basketball teams and head coaches. Everyone will receive a Dribble for the Cure t-shirt and goodie bag. But don’t forget to bring your own basketball (or buy one online) so you can Dribble for the Cure along a 1-mile course that winds through the UCLA campus.
The event will feature a festival of games, autographs and pictures with players, along with food and entertainment prior to the campus Dribble. So get there early to check in and enjoy the festivities.
We challenge you to fundraise leading up to the event. Your fundraising will allow you to be eligible for prizes based on the amount of pledge money turned in by the date of the event.
Head coaches of the Bruin Men’s and Women’s basketball teams along with the UCLA Athletic Department have been dedicated to this Dribble for the Cure initiative and are proud partners of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) and the Cancer Research Program at Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA.

““There has never been a more exciting time in cancer research than now. Decades of basic research has provided us with insight in how cancers grow and escape the immune system. We are well positioned for the revolution in new targeted therapies to treat cancer. The sad part is that there is minimal support for research into how these new discoveries can benefit children with cancer. The Dribble for the Cure and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation provides the partnership that helps make that happen, by supporting new and innovative ideas to revolutionize the therapies for children with cancer. Nothing is more wonderful than to see our UCLA community come together in this effort!”
– Dr. Theodore B. Moore, Chief of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA
