Wolfpack Basketball Teams to Host Dribble for Victory Over Cancer

RALEIGH – The NC State men’s and women’s basketball programs are teaming up with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) and the V Foundation for Cancer Research for their inaugural Dribble for Victory Over Cancer, which will raise funds for pediatric cancer research through the Dick Vitale Fund for Pediatric Cancer, a specialized grant fund at the V Foundation.

The event is set for October 15th and will be held on the NC State campus.

Registration and festivities begin at 12 p.m. at the NC Wellness and Recreation Outdoor Basketball Courts, with the welcome ceremony set for 1 p.m. and Dribble for Victory Over Cancer starting at 1:15 p.m.

The Dribble will start and end at the NC Wellness and Recreation Outdoor Basketball Courts located next to the recreational tennis courts (2611 Cates Avenue). Participants will dribble alongside NC State men’s and women’s basketball players for a one-mile loop. Following the dribble, the closing ceremony will take place back at the outdoor basketball courts.

The event is now in its 15th year nationally and has raised more than $2 million in the fight against pediatric cancer. After starting at UCLA and St. John’s, the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation has partnered with the V Foundation to expand The Dribble to other campuses, with NC State participating this year for the first time.

“We are fighting for the future of kids with cancer and hope to ignite the Wolfpack community to engage with us,” said Jeri Wilson, Executive Director of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, the organization which pioneered this event for the past 15 years before partnering with the V Foundation to expand the program in 2021. “Together, we can fund research that could lead to the next breakthrough in pediatric cancer treatment.”

September is pediatric cancer awareness month. In the U.S., 47 children are diagnosed with cancer every day. While survival rates have increased due to research, cancer is still the leading cause of death by disease in children 19 years and younger. Severe underinvestment in research has inhibited scientific advancement, leaving most pediatric cancer patients with decades-old treatment options, many of which are too toxic for developing young bodies.

“Our mission at the V Foundation has and always will be to declare victory over cancer, and we are thrilled to join forces with Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and the passionate NC State community to make this goal a reality,” said Shane Jacobson, Chief Executive Officer of the V Foundation. “We are committed to funding cutting-edge pediatric cancer research projects, and this event allows us to unite as one team against cancer.”
