Cases of Love and the Power of One
Meet Keira Raack, a 9-year-old fourth grader with a big heart and a giving spirit. Keira started a project called “Cases of Love” with one goal in mind – to spread joy and smiles to sick children in the hospital. Her inspiration for this project came through her love for sewing and her older sisters both having spent time in the hospital. Kiera is a true example of the Power of One. The Power of One – meaning never underestimate the power of what you, one person, can do.
With a donation of $20, Keira will specially sew a pillowcase and attach a personal, encouraging note to go along with it. Keira doesn’t stop there. She will then deliver the pillowcases to local children’s hospitals and donate the proceeds to the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation in efforts to help kids fighting cancer. As Kiera’s project expands, she plans to reach out to additional Childrens’ Hospitals funded by Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.
These pillowcases help make children who are in the hospital feel a little more comfortable. Keira says, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could help the kids feel just a bit more at home?”
Keira took her fundraising efforts to the next level by having her own expo booth at the 19th Annual Reaching for the Cure event. She was able to talk to participants and raise awareness about her cause. Best part, she raised over $500! Kiera has been awarded the Difference-Maker Grant at her school. this grant allowed her to further her mission to make more children facing cancer a bit more comfortable while undergoing treatment.
PCRF is proud to know this Power of One! Changing the world one kindness at a time.
